HI Bill In your opinion what could the Oilers be talking to the Flyers about as per Ek, I have heard Yak a lot, not sure the Oilers would just give him away for Streit would they, or do the Flyers have any interest in him at all?

I do not foresee a trade fit between the Flyers and Edmonton. I do not think that the Flyers would take with Edmonton would offer nor do I think the Flyers would part with what Edmonton light one for some of their more desirable pieces at forward.[url]
The trade that ultimately led to nothing was the Oates trade. His time in Philly was short, and none of the pieces (Maxime Ouellet, 2002 1st Rounder (Martin Vagner), 2002 2nd Rounder (Maxime Daigneault), 2002 3rd Rounder (Derek Krestanovich)) turned into anything of note. It was still a massive overpayment.
Edit: People (myself included) were pretty upset with the Zolnierczyk for Rosehill trade.
Back when the farm system was extremely thin, I remember the Chaput for Sestito trade making some waves that only got bigger when he scored memorial cup GWG.
Upshall for Carcillio sent some fans off the deep end.

It was, but in Clarke's defense, the night before the deadline, the Flyers had lost both Primeau and Roenick to knee injuries in Tampa. They wouldn't get any kind of in depth results on either guy until after the deadline had passed.
Oates was leading the NHL in assists when he was acquired by the Flyers(he ended up finishing the year as the assist leader, too) and he was among the top ten scorers(finished tied for 7th).
It wasn't as if Clarke traded for a stiff. I think the issue was more about the rumor that the Flyers had refused to include Ouellet in a deal for Raymond Bourque the season before. Of course, after the horrifically bad playoff performance of the Flyers offense, it was an easy matter to drop Oates.
Funny enough, Oates led the Flyers in playoff points that season.

What left the biggest impression from that deal. Scottie Upshall's looks or Dan Carllio's....looks.....

I remember being upset at the Upshall deal, because they added the 2nd rounder going to Phoenix.
While a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rounder is nothing to sneeze at, the 2002 Oates trade turned out to be relatively meaningless in the long term for both teams. Oates only played 14 regular season games and 5 playoff games for the Flyers. The Flyers also gave up goalie Maxime Ouellet, who was a big time goalies prospect ('99 1st round pick, 22nd overall by the Flyers). The 2002 traded picks ended up being Martin Vagner (D - 1st round, 26 overall, to Dallas via Washington via Philly), Maxime Daigneault (G - 2nd round, 59th overall), and Derek Krestanovich (F - 3rd round, 92nd overall).
But, here are some names left on the board Washington (and Dallas with the transferred 1st round pick) passed up on in a pretty weak draft: Jarret Stoll, Trevor Daley, Matt Greene, Duncan Keith, Jiri Hudler, Matt Stajan, Johnny Boychuck, Tomas Fleischmann, Valtteri Filppula,
Perfect example of a HUGE trade that turned into nothing for either team
Adam Oates for Maxime Ouellet and the Flyers' first, second and third round selections in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Oates left after the season, and Ouellet nor the picks even amounted to anything. Yet at the time of the trade people wanted to string Clarke up because Ouellet was the "Next" superstar goalie.

2 assists after being shutout 3 times in 5 games, right? Worst series ever!
